Kate’s House

Welcome to my house!

My living room is incredibly uplifting and airy… and also quite cool in the summer. I mounted a fireplace (thank you Stephen Wain) on the wall to make my modern condo have a more “Charlestonian feel”. I cannot wait until it’s a nice cold and rainy day outside to curl up on my chaise and read my stacks, and stacks… and stacks… of magazines.

The wall with the fireplace mantle definitely is still a project in the works! I did just put up this framed chalkboard piece above the mantle, which I adore.

Who says you can’t have a bean bag in your house when you grow up?

Bits & Bobs

I found this lime & white bird fabric in Virginia and fell in love. I got enough to cover this really old loveseat/bedend chair and somehow they were able to make two bed pillows with leftover material as well. I found the navy and white striped material a day later. I am a navy & white stripe kind of girl (I currently have 9 different types of this shirt in my closet), so it was perfect. I designed my entire bedroom around this fabric. I hear this is normal – still deciding on that one.

I hope you enjoyed it!

Don’t forget to take a sparkler with you when you go- This bright blue is actually my foyer, which is the first thing people see. I thought having a brilliant blue would really give them the idea that they’ll have a great time. I am looking forward to finding the perfect chandelier to hang here.

How a Lamp Can Add Some Flair

My best friend’s Mom is a very successful interior designer. As my friend and I have now embarked on the next phase in life after graduating college, we are both in the process of moving into new apartments and having a more adult-like home. Her Mother kept talking to us and reminding us about investing in good lamps.  She said a good lamp can “make” a room.  I decided to take some pictures of lamps that I liked and that I personally thought stood out. After keeping my eye out for a a week or two, it became absolutely clear to me just how fun a lamp can be! What an amazingly simple, and usually affordable, way to add a little spice to your space! –Chloe

Elle Decor has a great article on finding different types of lamp with a list of amazing online resources. Check it out HERE.

Miss Jackie’s House

Last August I visited the home of Miss Jackie in south Georgia with Hollie Wood, of Hollie Wood Style.  Miss Jackie opened her home up to us with smiles and a lot of hot coffee. If houses could tell a story, Miss Jackie’s was a fairytale. Each room was bursting with collections of tambourines, animal skulls, rocks and other things she had found around the area.  Almost every room had collections of arrowheads, even some that Miss Jackie has had since she was a child. Her fence leading up to the house was covered with fireplace mantels, bones, old chairs. Miss Jackie laughed at our inspection of it stating, “Well, really I just started the fence because I didn’t like the neighbors.. then people I knew just kept bringing me more and more things and I just kept throwing them up on the fence. You might as well have something fun to look at.”  That sentiment seems to run throughout the entirety of her home.  Later in the day, as a Georgia thunderstorm rolled in, I ventured from room to room looking at all of the things that make up Miss Jackie and her white wooden house. I will never forget my day spent on her property.  –Kate

My House Your House

“Home is a place not only of strong affections, but of entire unreserved; It is life’s undress rehearsal, its backroom, its dressing room, from which we go forth to more careful and guarded intercourse, leaving behind…cast-off and everyday clothing.” –Harriet Beecher Stowe
